Gradient yarn Bobbel for your most beautiful works
A new wool trend has been emerging for some time. The variety of colors inspires many knitting and crocheting fans. The selection is becoming more and more extensive and the range more and more colorful.
Bobbel is the name given to hand-wound color gradient yarn in different variations of color gradients for knitting or crocheting. These are not caused by coloring!
New individual threads with a different color are knotted to the threads by hand, thus changing the color. You don't have to worry about the knots, they can easily be knitted. They are then completely invisible.
For a beautiful, flowing color transition, matching colors are gradually used. This requires a fine feel for colors and a deeper knowledge of the color wheel.
Where do gradient bobbles come from?
The gradient bobble was invented in 1985 in Beyernburg by the company Wuppertaler Garnbleicher und Färberei. Wolfgang Hasenack is considered to be the inventor. The term “bobbel” was not established until much later.
At the same time, a specialized twisting machine was developed and manufactured by the Ravormwald company. For this, 3 to 9 cones were placed on the device and then wound up by hand on a wool winder.
Mostly sweaters and jackets were made at that time. The instructions for this were designed in a studio by WGF Colcoton Unikat. Then they created several magazines with instructions and brought them to the people through clever marketing at trade fairs and handicraft magazines.
In the 80s there was a very high demand for knitting and crochet supplies. This slowed down again in the 90s, so the company sold its division and patents to another company. This lost size over time. Occasionally you can find smaller offers on the web.

Tips and tricks for gradient yarn
Plied yarns are particularly good for crocheting for a softer end result. You can also needle pearls into your bobble thread or order it with glitter thread.
Tip: the more color changes you have in a bobble, the fewer patterns you need because 1. you cannot see it well and 2. it becomes too restless. The gradient looks excellent in itself.
We recommend a needle size of 2.5 - 3.5 for 3-ply yarn. With each additional thread in the winding, the needle size can be increased by approximately 0.5. That means with 4-ply strength 3.0 to 4.0 and so on. But of course it always depends on whether you work tightly or loosely and of course whether the finished part should be rather firm (sweater) or fluffy (cloth).
If you are dissatisfied with your stitch structure, don't hesitate to experiment with other needle sizes. You can find suitable needles in our online shop!
Since the wool is very delicate, you should not wash your work over 30 degrees. We recommend the delicates program in a laundry bag.
